PCART responds to Earthquake damage in Cushing
|
The Payne County Animal Response Team was deployed to Cushing, Oklahoma on Monday, November 7th. Earthquake damage to the Cimarron Towers necessitated evacuation of the building. Some residents with pets were able to move in with family and friends while others are being sheltered by the Red Cross. Three cats needed sheltered as a result of this event. Jackie Ross-Guerrero from the Humane Society of Stillwater and Elisabeth Giedt, D.V.M. from the Center for Veterinary Sciences and Michael DeRemer from the Medical Reserve Corps were assisted by local firemen and emergency responders in removing the cats from the apartments and taking them to the Cushing Animal Control for sheltering. Special thanks to the Stillwater Humane Society for providing cages, food, litter and blankets for the cats and to Cushing Animal Control for providing shelter for these cats.
