The following training opportunities are available online Through the Oklahoma Medical Reserve Corp (OK-MRC), FEMA, ASPCA Pro, and university of florida extension


Required for ALL PCART Team Members:

​OK Medical Reserve Corp (OK-MRC) Registration and Online Training

All PCART volunteers must register with the Oklahoma Medical Reserve Corp (www.okmrc.org) and complete the required online training before deploying as a PCART member. Go to the OK-MRC website and sign up as a volunteer, complete the required online training (including MRC Orientation, ICS 100 and ICS 700, and personal response plan classes.

Be certain to note your interest in working with small animal and/or large animal response teams as a Skill. This will assure that the State Animal Response Team will have you on their list when they call out teams!

OKMRC will submit your information for a Background Check, and once these steps are complete you will have a have a picture taken for your OK-MRC Badge (either at a PCART meeting or at Payne County Health Department). You will receive an MRC T-shirt, and will also be able to purchase a PCART T-shirt.

​FEMA Online Training:

​In addition to required courses, more advanced training is available both online, in classrooms, and in the field through OKMRC and other organizations.

FEMA and FEMA's Emergency Management Institute (EMI) also offer free courses both online and in classroom formats, many of which result in a certificate.  You must send copies of these certificates to PCART and upload them to your OKMRC profile to be assigned associated roles when deployed.

To complete FEMA courses you will need a FEMA SID (student identification number) which will register you in the system to receive credit for your work.  Once you complete a module, do NOT forget to take the test and save the certificate of completion that comes to your email address. 

The following are some of the modules especially helpful to volunteers in animal response:

IS-10.a-Animals in Disasters: Awareness and Preparedness
The objectives of this course are to increase awareness and preparedness among animal owners and care providers, and to describe how typical hazards affect animals.

IS-11.a-Animals in Disasters: Community Planning
The objectives of this course are to learn how to develop a community plan for managing animals in an emergency, identify hazards and threats most likely to affect your community and ways to minimize their impact on animals, indicate how communities use the Incident Command System (ICS) to respond effectively to an incident involving animals.

ICS 100, Introduction to the Incident Command System
This course describes the history, features and principles, and organizational structure of the Incident Command System.

IS-111, Livestock in Disasters 
The objectives of this course are to describe the various hazards that animals can face and how to mitigate them, as well as how to respond to an actual disaster.

ICS-700.a-National Incident Command System
Describe the purpose of the NIMS Components including: Preparedness, Communications and Information Management, Resource Management, and Command and Management.

ICS-800.a-National Response Framework, An Introduction
The course introduces participants to the concepts & principles of the National Response Framework.

University of Florida Veterinary College Extension - 
Awareness Level Technical Animal Rescue:

This course takes approximately 7 hours to complete and is aligned with the NFPA 1670 and 1006 Standards for technical rescue chapters on animal rescue. 

The course objectives include:

After successfully completing this course, participants will be able to: 
  •  Recognize NFPA standards related to Animal Technical Rescue.
  •  Recognize the role of the Incident Command System (ICS) in Animal Technical Rescue.
  •  Identify knots appropriate for use in Animal Technical Rescue.
  •  Identify equipment used in Animal Technical Rescue.
  •  Identify and recognize appropriate use of anchors.
  •  Recognize the role of mechanical advantage systems and how they are used.
  •  Identify techniques used for both low and high angle rescues of animals.
  •  Recognize behavioral cues of animals as they relate to Animal Technical Rescue.
The estimated amount of time needed to complete this course is 7 hours. This course is approved by the Florida State Fire College for 7 hours of continuing education units. It is recommended that participants complete this training within 1 week. On average this course takes participants around 7 hours of dedicated time to complete.
